New 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan and Pick-Up VW Truck Amarok in Nepal

Pooja International, authorised importers of Volkswagen cars in Nepal launched the brand’s new flagship — the 2017 Tiguan — and its updated pick-up — Amarok, in the Nepali market on August 3 at an event held at Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Tahachal Marg.
The Tiguan debuted as a concept vehicle at the November 2006 LA Auto Show and the first-generation Tiguan was launched worldwide in 2007, becoming an instant hit. The best-selling vehicle eventually made its way into Nepal in 2010, where it gained massive popularity and sold more than 350 units.
On the other hand, this is the first time utility vehicle Amarok has been made available in Nepal.

Sharing his excitement, Divashish Biswas, Assistant General Manager — Marketing at Pooja International said, “We are very optimistic about the new premium compact crossover and pick-up truck. We are expecting to sell around 64 units of each.”
The new Tiguan will be available in four variants — Trendline 1.4L, Comfortline and Highline 2.0L in both petrol and diesel engines. Citing Volkswagen’s commitment to providing better value for money, Biswas revealed that the petrol-powered models are priced at Rs 99,00,000 for the basic, 1390cc automatic variant, Rs 1,13,00,000 for the 1984cc semi-loaded automatic variant and Rs 1,28,00,000 for the 1984cc loaded automatic variant.
The diesel-powered Tiguan is available at Rs 1,17,00,000 for the 1968cc semi-loaded automatic variant. Meanwhile the Amarok is available at Rs 82,00,000 for the Startline variant, Rs 88,00,000 for the Trendline and Rs 92,00,000 for the Trendline variant with leather seats.

The latest-generation Tiguan, shortlisted for this year’s World Car of the Year award, features many specification enhancements, including an ergonomic interior for a comfortable ride with utilities at your fingertips.
The new Tiguan is based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform and is powered by an efficient 1.4L and a 2.0L TSI and TDI engine mated to a supple seven-speed automatic-DSG gear box, delivering a peak power of 180 PS/132KW with 320 Nm of torque and 150PS/105KW with 340 Nm of torque respectively.
The car comes with the 4Motion Intelligent all-wheel drive system to provide off-the-road support while at the same time affording the comforts of a saloon.

Ranging from 1500-3940 rpm, the new Tiguan is packed with distinctive characteristics that the brand claims are unmatched in the South Asian market. These include premium lifestyle features like Hill Start Assist, Auto Hold, self-sealing tyres, electronically personalised leather seats, Auto Park Assist, Cruise Control, automatic headlamp activation, App Connect, rain and light sensor, LED headlamps with DRLs, LED illuminated panoramic sunroof and keyless entry among others.
Aimed at the family market, the car comes with additional safety features such as six airbags for both the front and rear seats and an Active Hood for pedestrian safety. The crossover comes with roof rails that can hold mountain bikes.

On the other hand, the new Amarok unites cross-country mobility, flexibility and efficiency like no other pick-up. Set on a robust ladder-frame chassis, the dual-cab all-wheel drive utility vehicle’s ‘Off-Road’ mode engages off-road ABS and ESP modes along with hill-descent control above certain inclines.
These provide traction and safe handling on all terrains. The Amarok’s powerful 2.0 litre TDI biturbo engine sets new standards in terms power, torque, fuel economy, CO2 emissions and comfort, and comes with differential lock and Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR).

The core variant has a 1,018 kg payload. Towing duties are capped at 750 kg for unbraked trailers and 3000 kg when braked. The rear container is 1,555 mm long, 1,620 mm wide and 508 mm high. The distance between the wheel arches is 1,222 mm, which allows the Amarok to fit a full-size pallet between them, the only vehicle in its class to do so.

The newly launched models by the German automaker promise to take the market by storm thanks to their eye-catching designs and the brand’s reputation for high precision engineering.
